Removed Vinyl - stuck with mildew smell!

Added February 3rd, 2006

Q. Having removed glued down vinyl flooring from a concrete subfloor in a bed room, there is still glue left on the floor. It has a strong mildew smell. Ive tried bleach and Tilex, but neither got rid of the odor. There is no moisture in the room and the floor is dry. What do you suggest to remove the smell?

A: You can try sealing or painting. With the glue being left, you might have problems with adhesion. Usually bleach will kill mold and mildew. You can try getting the floor wet and using enzyme digester and deodorizer, letting it dry. You might have to do it twice. .
