Sliding closet door track and laminate floor

Added December 15, 2005

Q. I have a question about installing a laminate floor. Do I install the sliding closet door track on the top or underneath the laminate flooring?

A: Install the laminate first, then cut the track to the right length, while making sure the mounting holes are even and centered. Lay it on the area of the floor it will be on, then mark the mounting holes on the laminate. Use a spade drill bit to drill the holes. Then use a hammer drill with a masonry bit of ¼'' to drill a hole about half an inch deep into the concrete. Use a drywall anchor after vacuuming the dust out. Put the track in place and screw it down.
