Removing paint from hardwood floors

Added January 18th, 2006

Q. After I just finished my hardwood floors, I had to touch up the baseboards a little. I taped the floors but the paint still bled onto the floors. How do I keep this from happening and what is the best product/way to remove the paint without damaging the new coat?

A: The best way is to wipe the paint right away with a damp cloth. Use a metal paint guide or painters shield and trim brush. Paint can be wiped from the floor with a rag, rinsing as needed. You can use Goof Off to remove dried latex paint from the floor. The best tape to use is painter's tape. 3M makes a few that can be removed in varying lengths of time. Follow the directions on the tape. It is recommended to remove standard painter's tape before the paint is completely dry.
