Removed finish cleaning off adhesive

Added December 2nd, 2005

Q. While recently gluing down my new bamboo flooring, I found out that I maybe hadn't cleaned the floor as well as I could have. Thus I had to use paint thinner to scrub the adhesive off. After that, there are now dull spots where the finish was removed. What can I do?

A: Since the manufacturer's recommended adhesive remover was not used, contacting the manufacturer seems like a good option. Applying substances such as polyurethane usually causes differences in the finish in the affected areas, as well as possible problems with adhesion. To achieve an even finish, you would need to screen and apply new coats of finish to the entire floor. However, there may be issues with compatibility. You should contact the manufacturer in regards to your finishing issues.
