Benefits of Cork Flooring

Cork flooring has many desirable qualities and are beneficial to homeowners looking for new and exciting ways to revamp the look of their home.

Cork Floor Durability

Cork flooring is naturally resistant to wear and tear, because it is not really affected due to its cellular composition against friction and impact. When pressure is applied to cork, the gas in its cells are compressed and volume of it reduces very quickly. When pressure is released, cork recovers to its original shape quickly. Even furniture and high heels across its surface cannot damage the surface! Cork flooring tiles are usually protected with an enviromentally friendly urethatne that contains no formaldehyde. Also, found in cork is Suberine, an inherent waxy substance. This helps cork in a way that it is impervious to liquid as well as gases, with an end result that cork will not rot, and it may therefore be considered the best seal available.

Cork Flooring and hypoallergenic qualities

Cork does not cause allergies due to the fact that it does not absorb dust.

Thermal and acoustic insulation

Cork has over 100 million cell per cubic inch that is filled with air, and with that type of cellular structure, it incapacitates external forces such as sound and temperature. Cork is resistant to temperature changes.

Cork flooring is fire resistant

Cork does not release any toxic gases on combustion, and it is also naturally a fire inhibitor, it will not spread a flame.

Repellent of insects and anti-microbial

The inherent substance of cork, the suberin, is a natural insect repellent. Termites are even unwelcome when it comes to cork. Cork is also anti-microbial.

Cork floors and the ease of maintaining

Sweeping and mopping is the general maintenance of cork flooring. Cork floors do not require waxing. When the finish starts to wear off, every couple of years, just lightly sand the surface of the floor and reapply a new coating of urethane. The floor will last for many years to come!

Friendly to the earth and the enviroment

The cork tree has renewable bark, the only part of the tree that is used, so trees are not cut down in order to manufactur the flooring.
